Zoe turned one today. Her appointment with the pediatrician isn’t for two more weeks, but I’m guessing she’s 18-19 pounds. She is starting to wear some 12 month shirts, but she’s still in 6-9 month pants (and some of those are falling off of her). A couple of her 3-6 month outfits still fit.
She’s been walking for a couple of weeks now, and she is fast! She waves and claps, and is starting to use the sign for “finished” or “all done.” It is still a struggle to get formula or milk in her, but she LOVES feeding herself finger foods, and WOW can she make a mess. She eats turkey, chicken, beef, cheese, green beans, carrots, pears, blueberries, grapes, broccoli, Cheerios, crackers, pasta, etc.
She has four teeth, with maybe two more on the way, and she is a biter. She came up behind my mom a few days ago and bit her on the back of the leg. I thought she was going to give me a kiss yesterday and she bit my cheek instead. (And yes, it still freakin’ hurts.)
Everything goes in her mouth, and it’s disgusting. It goes way beyond her love of paper. As soon as we put her in her carseat, she pulls her shoes off and starts chewing on them. The rip of velcro opening has become one of my least favorite sounds. She loves our dog Toby, and Toby is much more tolerant of her than he is of Noah. Toby barely even flinches when Zoe tries to chew on his ears (though it makes me flinch big time – GROSS!).
She says ma ma, da da, hi, and ball. When we ask, “What’s an elephant say?” she blows raspberries. She dances when she hears music and bobs her head. It looks like a mixture of head-banging and Saturday Night Live’s “Night at the Roxbury” dance.
She climbs on everything and she’s very agile. We have to strap her in tight when she’s in her highchair or she’ll climb right out. I was filling her sippy cup with water the other day and when I turned around she was on top of the coffee table. She also likes to climb onto the hearth and she can climb the stairs. She loves it when we take the cushions off of the couch and put them on the floor. She uses the cushions to climb on the couch, and then dives back off into them face first. She’s no delicate little flower.
Here are some picture we had taken for her first birthday:
