• About:

I swore I would never drive a minivan, so I went through a bit of an identity crisis when we finally broke down and bought one. But now I've decided to get over myself, and fully embrace my life as a suburban, minivan-driving, Mommy Blogger. Since my family rocks, and my family and the minivan are a package deal, I am hereby declaring that My Minivan Rocks!

This blog is about so much more than my minivan; It's about the three beautiful kids who fill the carseats in my minivan. Christian and I were married in May 2003. After fertility treatments, our son Noah was born to us in January 2006. Our daughter Zoe was born in November 2006 in Phu Tho, Vietnam, and came home when she was four-months-old. Colin is our baby boy. He was born in July 2008 and came home when he was two-days-old through domestic adoption.

We never planned to have our children THIS close together (we are probably the only people on the planet who can say they had two adoptions happen more quickly than expected), but we are enjoying our crazy new life!

Memorial Day weekend at the lake – “Hang the Baby”

It just wouldn’t be a weekend with Grampie without a game of “Hang the Baby.”

“Flying” on Daddy’s legs

Memorial Day weekend at the lake – beach photos

Colin was not sure about the water. This picture was taken after Dad put his toes in the lake for the first time.

He got used to it after a few minutes and ended up enjoying playing in the sand.

Noah and Zoe went sure about the water at first either. They thought maybe they would just [...]

What did I do in a past life to deserve this?

We’ve been working on potty training with Zoe, but it hasn’t been going well, so we haven’t pushed it. With Noah, we knew he was ready, and it went relatively smoothly. We thought that maybe Zoe just needed a little more time.
Well, she’s had this bizarre diaper rash for several weeks now. It would get [...]

Favorite Photo Friday – Babies and Beer (2009 Edition)

I have a ton of photos from Memorial Day weekend at the lake that I still need to post, but I had to at least share my new “Babies and Beer” photos. (Strangely, I had another “Babies and Beer” Favorite Photo Friday around this same time last year.)

Out of the mouths (literally)

After she puked up the shrimp, rice, and veggies we had for dinner tonight, Zoe exclaimed, “Look! There’s my food!”
I’m hoping we’re not in for a long night.

Check out my new blog design!

Like the new header? Thanks so much to Jenna at Serendipity Designs!
She helped me jazz up my new Gravatar too! (If you don’t see a minivan with a filmstrip frame, you’ll probably have to clear your internet cache* or wait a few days for it to show up. Don’t ask me. It’s a WordPress thing.)

Adopted man discovers his half-sister lives across the street

Check out this video from CNN!

An amazing gift

My friend Susan, Jasen’s mom, has been reading the blog for a while now. Several weeks ago she sent me the most amazing gift, a framed, cross-stitch picture of our family. The note with it said that reading the blog was one of the highlights of her day, and that she wanted to thank me [...]

Insurance companies suck

Colin has had quite a few doctor appointments lately and the insurance company has been a pain to deal with. I was just saying the other day that the next time our insurance company tells me they can’t verify a charge or that I need to fax them further documentation to process a claim, I’m going to send them [...]

Out of the mouths (Part 6)

Noah is in the thick of the, “Why, Mommy?” stage. All day I hear, “Why?… But why?… Why?… But why, Mommy?… OK, but why?”
Unfortunately for my sanity, Zoe purchased her ticket for the “Why?” train recently, too.
At dinner last night I said, “Mommy’s tired.”
Noah said, “Why, Mommy?”
I said, “I just am, but you know what? You [...]

Out of the mouths (Part 5)

I’m starting to wonder if my 3-year-old is a hypochondriac.*  I mentioned a few weeks ago that Noah has been saying, “My back is killing me like Grandma’s.” Now he’s claiming to have the same symptoms as my parents’ 14-year-old dog. Yesterday at lunch he said, “Mommy, I’m finished. I can’t eat any more because [...]

More awesome SNL videos

I mentioned a few weeks ago after the Angelina Jolie/ Madonna “Baby Off” parody that I am a pretty big fan of Saturday Night Live.
If you haven’t seen the SNL Digital Shorts with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg, I highly recommend them. I still laugh my a** of every time I see them.
WARNING: These have [...]

Out of the mouths (Part 4)

OK, so it wasn’t one of my kids that said this, but I had to share it because it’s so freakin’ funny.
My cousin Shannon’s husband, Scott, has a bald spot. Today their five-year-old son, Michael, told Shannon that he wanted a haircut like Daddy’s, with a circle cut out on top.

Favorite Photo Friday – Zoe’s Doll

Emily is Zoe’s favorite doll. We have given Zoe other dolls, and she likes them fine, but Emily continues to be her favorite. I would love to get rid of Emily because, frankly, I’m embarrassed to be seen in public with her. Unfortunately, Zoe refuses to part ways.
See, Emily is not a very attractive doll. My mom [...]

A fresh new look

I need a new look for this blog. Any recommendations for someone who designs WordPress pages?

Our 6th Anniversary

Saturday was our sixth wedding anniversary. It was pretty low key. My parents kept Noah and Zoe Friday night, and then called Saturday and said they would keep them that night, too (yes, I think they are crazy, but we were certainly grateful). We still had Colin though, and he was sick, so we couldn’t really [...]
