• About:

I swore I would never drive a minivan, so I went through a bit of an identity crisis when we finally broke down and bought one. But now I've decided to get over myself, and fully embrace my life as a suburban, minivan-driving, Mommy Blogger. Since my family rocks, and my family and the minivan are a package deal, I am hereby declaring that My Minivan Rocks!

This blog is about so much more than my minivan; It's about the three beautiful kids who fill the carseats in my minivan. Christian and I were married in May 2003. After fertility treatments, our son Noah was born to us in January 2006. Our daughter Zoe was born in November 2006 in Phu Tho, Vietnam, and came home when she was four-months-old. Colin is our baby boy. He was born in July 2008 and came home when he was two-days-old through domestic adoption.

We never planned to have our children THIS close together (we are probably the only people on the planet who can say they had two adoptions happen more quickly than expected), but we are enjoying our crazy new life!

Noah’s first school photo

We got Noah’s pictures back from his pre-school this week, and they turned out really well. I didn’t realize they were going to be professional posed photos. I just thought they would be the traditional school photo head shot, so I have to say I was impressed. Then they told me how much they cost per sheet and I thought I was going to choke. I had to buy SOME since it is his FIRST school photo, and of course the photographer knows this. I bet the younger the child, the more dollar signs they see plastered across the parents’ foreheads as they walk in.

They gave a free gift with every photo purchase, which is nice, but I thought the choice of gift was kind of strange. It’s a t-shirt in Noah’s size with his picture on it. It seems weird to put him in a t-shirt with a picture of himself on it for several reasons:

1. If you want to see him, you can just look up at his face since it’s only about six inches higher than the picture on the shirt. This seems a bit redundant to me.

2. Doesn’t wearing a t-shirt with your own picture on it make you seem a little self-centered? He’s a two-year-old, so he’s pretty self-centered naturally. He doesn’t need any help with that right now thankyouverymuch.

3. Isn’t it a little dorky to wear a t-shirt with a photo of yourself on it? Isn’t that like going to a concert wearing a t-shirt with the band on it that you’re going to see? *Don’t be THAT guy! (Anyone get the PCU reference? The cheesy movie they run sometimes on Comedy Central? Jeremy Piven before he was Ari Gold? Anyone? Bueller?)

*I admit I did wear my 83 feet t-shirt to some of Christian’s shows, but that’s different. That was supportive. There’s an exception to the rule when you KNOW the band, especially when you wear the t-shirt to a battle of the bands. I also proudly wore my “I’m with the band” t-shirt.

  1. I just LOVE the picture-don’t worry pictures do not get cheaper : )

  2. What a fantastic picture! I’ve always wondered about those “free” pre-school picture t-shirts myself…

  3. The picture is cute, and I loved your list of reasons for not wanting to put him in the t shirt- You’re a girl after my own heart.
So funny! And you do not get to say anything about picture prices when I’m getting ready to sign my house over to the photographer who just took my son’s Sr. pictures. My husband and I had to decide if we really want to look at him all that much. Seventy bajillion dollars. You just wait, Missy.
